Jesus loves the little children of the world.....
"He will wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying, nor pain. All that has gone forever."
Stats from ISC on children:
2 billion of the world's population is under 15 years of age. That means about 30% of the world is children
In many parts of the world, especially Africa, the percentage of children is closer to 50% of the population.
In 2002 about 20% of people had a mobile phone.
In 2010 about 60% of people have a mobile phone.
About 70% of the worlds population is illiterate.
About 70% of children in the world live in risky situations. They suffer poverty, slavery, violence, abuse, abandonment.
About 80% of people who follow Christ, decide to become a Christian before the age of 15.
Jesus loves and cares for 100% of children!
The lost girls of Thailand....
Sports Friends has an Asian base which is located in northern Thailand. Please pray for our staff there as they seek to train and work alongside Thai believers who desire to share the love of Christ through the platform of sports, a terrific relational ministry strategy, during this CHRISTmas season.
Today as I read my advent devotion for the day I was moved by the story of Issan and the Night ministries that takes place in Thailand. Would you consider reading this devotional and having a time of focused prayer for these girls and this cutting edge ministry?
Taken from An SIM advent devotional for Monday, Dec. 6th.
Reading: Isaiah 8:23-9:6
The People have Seen a Great Light
In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the Gentiles, by the way of the sea, along the Jordan. The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.
Isaiah 9:1-2
The first weekend in October I traveled with our production crew to Isaan along with colleagues from Step Ahead Micro Enterprise Development and Night Light Ministries. As among the people of Israel in Isaiah’s time, there are many people in Isaan today who walk in deep darkness: the darkness of poverty, the darkness of spirit worship, the darkness of prostitution (with all its heartbreaking ramifications for the family). Isaan is the main provider of prostitutes to the bars of Bangkok. More than 80% of the girls travel from the northeastern provinces looking for work to help them support their families back home.
Two of the young women on our team had themselves formerly been prostitutes. They know well the darkness and abuse of that lifestyle and the hopelessness of being trapped with no way out. Thanks to the caring and courageous work of Night Light, these two women (and many others) havefound a way out. They have truly seen a great light: the Light of Jesus Christ, who has come into our world, as prophesied by Isaiah in today’s reading. Watching these women give honor to the Lord through a worship dance was nothing less than watching a true miracle of God’s grace. These former prostitutes, both of whom were also “pole dancers” in Bangkok bars, now radiate the Great Light that has changed their lives. On that October weekend, they were going home to tell families, friends and a large group of church leaders about how God has set them free into His Light and Life and Love.
It’s difficult, isn’t it, to imagine what these young women have experienced. We don’t like to think about it. But we all have our own darkness and we are all equally in need of the Light. Whatever hurts have darkened our past, whatever struggles and tears we may face today, whatever fears we may have about the future – God is always near, waiting to shine His Light into our pain, waiting to restore us and to heal our brokenness.
As we look forward during this Advent season to celebrating Christ’s birth once again, let’s grab hold of the joy and peace that God offers each of us. And let’s walk in the light of His love.

The Light
The ancients gazed on the light, from afar
Shielding their eyes from the rising dawn, on a future horizon
Looking towards the mounting brightness
That would dispel the great darkness.
With great celebration, the angels heralded the entrance of the Light
Into this earthly arena,
As the Author of light himself, became the tiny fragile vessel,
Bearing the light that could illuminate the deepest recesses of a man’s soul,
Dispelling the darkest shadows.
The light was multiplied and entrusted to those who would pass it on.
Our ancestors took up the torch,
Carrying it high across the globe, down through the centuries.
Sometimes the flame sputtered as the darkness threatened to snuff it out,
But the light could not be extinguished because it springs from the source of all light.
The Light who is Immanuel,
The Light who came so that we who walk in darkness, could experience a glorious new dawn.
The Light who will one day return in triumph, conquering the darkness for ever.
He has come.
He is with us.
He is coming again.
Hallelujah!

Take my Son....
Take my Son.....
A wealthy man and his son loved to collect rare works of art. They had everything in their
collection, fromPicasso to Raphael. They would often sit together and admire the great works of
art..
When the Vietnam conflict broke out, the son went to war. He was very courageous and died in
battle while rescuing another soldier. The father was notified and grieved deeply for his only
son.
About a month later, just before Christmas,There was a knock at the door. A young man stood at the door with a large package in his hands..He said, 'Sir, you don't know me, but I am the soldier for whom your son gave his life. He saved
many lives that day, and he was carrying me to safety when a bullet struck him in the heart and he
died instantly... He often talked about you, and your love for art.' The young man held out this
package. 'I know this isn't much. I'm not really a great artist, but I think your son would have
wanted you to have this.'
The father
Opened the package. It was a portrait of his son, painted by the young man. He stared in awe at
the way the soldier had captured the personality of his son in the painting. The father was so
drawn to the eyes that his own eyes welled up with tears. He thanked the young man and offered to
pay him for the picture.. 'Oh, no sir, I could never repay what your son did for me. It's a gift.'
The father hung the portrait over his mantle. Every time visitors came to his home he took them to
see the portrait of his son before he showed them any of the other great works he had collected.
The man died a few months later. There was to be a great auction of his paintings. Many
influential people gathered, excited over seeing the great paintings and having an opportunity to
purchase one for their collection. On the platform sat the painting of the son. The auctioneer pounded his gavel. 'We will start the
bidding with this picture of the son. Who will bid for this picture?'
There was silence...
Then a voice in the back of the room shouted, 'We want to see the famous paintings. Skip this
one.' But the auctioneer persisted. 'Will somebody bid for this painting? Who will start the bidding?
$100, $200?' Another voice angrily. 'We didn't come to see this painting. We came to see the Van Gogh's, the Rembrandts. Get on with the Real bids!'
But still the auctioneer continued. 'The son! The son! Who'll take the son?'
Finally, a voice came from the very back of the room. It was the longtime gardener of the man and
his son. 'I'll give $10 for the painting...' Being a poor man, it was all he could afford.
'We have $10, who will bid $20? 'Give it to him for $10. Let's see the masters.'
The crowd was becoming angry. They didn't want the picture of the son.
They wanted the more worthy investments for their collections.
The auctioneer pounded the gavel.. 'Going once, twice, SOLD for $10!'
A man sitting on the second row shouted, 'Now let's get on with the collection!'
The auctioneer laid down his gavel. 'I'm sorry, the auction is over.'
'What about the paintings?'
I am sorry. When I was called to conduct this auction, I was told of a secret stipulation in the
will... I was not allowed to reveal that stipulation until this time. Only the painting of the son
would be auctioned. Whoever bought that painting would inherit the entire estate, including the
paintings. The man who took the son gets everything!'
God gave His son 2,000 years ago to die on the cross. Much like the auctioneer, His message today
is: 'The son, the son, who'll take the son?'
Because, you see, whoever takes the Son gets everything.
FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, WHO SO EVER BELIEVETH, SHALL HAVE
ETERNAL LIFE...THAT'S LOVE

Thanks for Praying.....
I just wanted to echo what David had to say about last night. The fellowship and food was great, but what Brian had to say was the highlight of the night and was a great reminder to me personally about what we are really trying to accomplish as a soccer club. The story about the soccer ref who died really spoke to me about how each encounter we have with someone might be our last opportunity to pass along God's love to them in some way. I didn't get a chance to speak with Brian afterwards, but please let him know that what he had to say was really impacting to Brandy and I. It would be great if somehow we could have him speak to the soccer club as a whole. I think it would really help some of the parents have a better understanding for the vision of the club and would be a great blessing to them also.

Prayer Warriors Needed....
- Monday and Tuesday I will have blocks of time set aside for praying and preparing for this speaking time. My prayer is that I will listen to the Spirit's leading for what I should speak about, have the courage to stay the course (not speak abt what I want to talk about) and the focus to prepare well. *must resist the temptation to speak to please people rather than communicate the words/message God gives me to say to challenge their hearts and service to the King of Kings.
- Next weekend - Pray for those coming to hear the message that God would prepare their hearts and minds for what is shared. Pray that they would not be prevented from coming because of busyness and the enemies distractions.
- Tuesday the 23rd of Nov. -am final review of message 6pm ish is the delivery of the words.
- Pray that the message would be powerful towards impacting the coaches heart, mind and perspective for utilizing their coaching position for being spiritual life influencers! I want to be an ADVOCATE for helping imperfect Christians (athletes, coaches and parents) to "live out" the righteousness of God in the environment of competitive sports. The message I think I'm going to give is entitled "Sports Does Not Develop Character but the Holy Spirit Can!" Text is 2 Peter 1:3-9 It's part of a series of messages I'm developing for various audiences which is called "the Righteousness Challenge"
- pray for one special coffee mtg. with a long lost friend.

Asia and New Staff
In southeast Asia, Sports Friends is exploring a partnership with Compassion International where SF would
train Compassion’s youth workers in sports ministry. This will add to the toolbox of those already
respected in communities all over the country, and because Compassion already has an extensive network
in place, it will be a way to rapidly reach thousands of young people.
Three new people are in the process of joining our SF team in the U.S. Jason and Heather hope to write
curriculum that SF can use around the world for training. Erin plans to use her skills in photojournalism
to capture stories about what God is doing in the lives of young people through SF. We’re excited to
welcome all 3 to our team, and praying for God to raise up others who can serve with us worldwide.

If you like numbers.....
Here is the latest report that I got from SF staff member Danny Imes recent update:
In Nigeria there are now 10,000 youth involved with Sports Friends teams. Nigerian youth are growing
up surrounded by violence and conflict between ethnic groups, but God is using SF coaches to reconcile
communities and develop godly leaders. About 500 youth were able to attend camp this summer (see
some of the happy campers below). Seeds were planted, and lives were transformed.
And a note from SFN staff member Kyle Abts:
The breakdown from the camps. Obviously these campers were from various denominations under specific coaches and L4 leaders.
Gombe: 113 Boys 17 yrs and under, Aug 18-21
ECWA Camp Youth Alive (ECYA) #1: 113 Boys 15 yrs and under, Aug 23-26
ECYA #2: 131 Girls 15 yrs and under, Aug 30-Sep 2
ECYA #3: 117 Boys 17 yrs and under (10 were m$lm) Sep 6-8
Week of Champions
Jos: 135 boys and 20 girls 18 yrs and under, Aug 2-6
Trophies of Grace:
There are so many great things coming out from these camps! They had breakout time with their coaches each day to review the teaching (practical and lessons). They showed videos each night like "Facing the Giants" and "The Spirit of the Python" (by Jentezen Franklin Media Ministries). These opened up some serious dialogue!
One girl at the Girls ECYA #2 camp there were 34 girls who gave their lives or rededicated them to Christ. One young girl came up to one of our helper coaches Coach Monday on the second night (he is a SF Champion leading 2 teams at ECWA Bishara 2 in Jos). The photo has her in the extreme right (just to the right of Coach John with her eyes squinted). She shared how she was a "party girl" but wanting to change. She had done so many bad things with men that she couldn't remember her salvation. She came up to be prayed over and rededicated her life to Christ! The coaches linked her up with a local church - operaiting a SF model for discipleship and follow-up!!!
Blessings!
Kyle
In Ethiopia there are now over 50,000 youth involved with Sports Friends teams. This summer’s camp
experience was the best yet, with 380 youth involved. Camp Langano itself has been transformed over
the course of several years. Thanks to generous donors, it now boasts new camper cabins, a games
pavilion, staff housing, a soccer field, and a bath house. Next summer, camp staff expect to be able to
accommodate double the number of campers.

An Ethiopian Football Joke
A Korean asked God when Korea would win the world cup and God said in about 50 years time. The Korean cried because it wouldn't be in his lifetime. A Japanese asked God the same question and God replied in 100 years and all of Japan cried because it wouldn't be in their life time. Then Ethiopians asked God the same question and God began to cry, because God replied it wouldn't be in my lifetime.
What do you think? Is not true????
Blessings,
Berhanu

UGLIER THAN NORMAL.....
Note from Kenya leader who attended SF Africa Vision Trip last July
*Sports Friends is partnering with the Charlotte Eagles/MAI on a project in a M***** region
on the coast of Kenya. David and Mitch Sanford have been working on training leaders in
this area for several years and planting the seeds for the development of sports ministry. Last
year they invited us to partner with them to assist them in the training of sports ministry leaders and the establishment of strategic initiatives. We agreed only after bringing in their top leader to see the work in Ethiopia in our Arsi Negele region and to share with him the SF long term approach to developing ongoing sustainable CCSM led by nationals. We wanted to be sure he bought into this approach and believed a similar approach could be used effectively in Kenya among the unreached groups. This former Iman now strong Christian leader who is radiant with Christ sweet spirit and love strongly felt a similar approach could bare Kingdom fruit in his region and beyond. A brief note from this leader after a recent training for Pastors and level 2 coaching leaders is below:
Mama and I do hope that all is well with you and your family, and God is blessing you and your ministry. It was good that you came at this time of the year, and ran the training with the key Pastors of *Blank and Blank* Districts. More fire is lit and Pastors have gone back to their respective Churches with fire for starting sports ministry teams!
This month of April, I have visited 4 Churches in the bush and these Pastors have started sports ministry teams– many people gather outside the Churches to watch. I am excited about your returning trip in August for the first ever Football Camp.
Thank you for all the s[ports equipments you sent for all the teams, every team/coach had something to take back home. Our Lamu team is registered for this season’s league – I will make sure we keep you informed….. I went to the boarder of Somalia and Kenya, and started a preaching point (seeds of a church plant) of 39 people by using the ball – we left a missionary there.
